Description
Here is a nice specimen of Andradite Garnet from N'Chwaning mines in south Africa, in a deep, almost cherry red color, with Hematite in it's matrix. Andradite is quite common on the Kalahari Manganese fields, but usually presents as a secondary mineral to a variety of Manganese minerals and other ore species. What I like about this specimen is that here the proportion is reversed, where Andradite plays the main part, and the Hematite is mixed in to provide useful information about its par agenesis, rather than playing first fiddle. A nice south African reference specimen in my opinion, formerly in the stock of Lehigh minerals. Label is included. This specimen is 159 grams, or about 6 oz, and 2x1.5 inch in size.
